What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filler injections are a type of nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. Dermal fillers plump up wrinkles, smooth lines and restore volume in your face. Your healthcare provider injects these substances just under your skin.

People choose to get dermal fillers to enhance their facial features or gain a more youthful appearance. This elective treatment usually takes less than half an hour, and recovery time is minimal. Results are seen right away and last months to years depending on the type of filler and the location.

There are several kinds of dermal fillers. Your healthcare provider will discuss your options with you. As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks, including infection, bleeding and bruising. Health insurance plans generally don’t cover elective cosmetic procedures such as filler injections.

THE JUVEDERM COLLECTION

Juvéderm® Vollure

Juvéderm® Vollure is an FDA approved dermal filler constructed with cosmetic hyaluronic acid designed to treat mild and moderate wrinkles and folds formed in the lower face. Juvéderm® Vollure works by softening the look of noticeable lines that may form around your mouth (marionette lines and nasolabial folds).

Juvéderm® Volbella XC

Juvéderm® Volbella XC is an injectible gel used on a patients lips for lip augmentation and correction of perioral lines (lipstick lines). One of the latest Juvéderm® fillers to come available, this treatment option is perfect for individuals seeking to treat lips and smooth the areas around the patient’s mouth.

Juvéderm® Voluma XC

Juvéderm® Voluma XC is an FDA approved filler that is used to add volume to a patients cheek area. As we age, it is common for the cheek areas to lose volume which causes the face to appear hollow and lead to loose or sagging skin. By using Juvéderm® Voluma XC, we are able to instantly correct volume loss in the cheek area to achieve a natural, youthful appearance and shape of the cheeks.

Juvéderm® Ultra XC

Another very popular dermal filler we use is Juvéderm® Ultra XC, which is a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid. It adds volume to facial features such as the lips, nasolabial folds, jawline, and cheeks, in addition to filling in lines. It’s used for contouring and smoothing out wrinkles, which gives the face a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Juvederm® Ultra XC is formulated with lidocaine to improve the comfort of your treatment with the same long-lasting results.

WHAT IS RADIESSE?

Radiesse is dermal filler that is commonly used to fill moderate wrinkled or folded areas of the skin, most often in the face. With its patented formula, Radiesse not only smooths out the skin but also supports the underlying structure of the skin by promoting your body’s own collagen production.

Radiesse’s formula is a gel-like material that provides immediate volume to the skin as soon as it is injected. Over time, your body absorbs the gel with the microspheres staying in place, smoothing out the skin.

THE Restylane COLLECTION

At Pure Envy MedSpa, we carry the entire Restylane family of products to help restore a youthful appearance to those we’re treating. Restylane offers a complete line of hyaluronic dermal fillers that are quickly gaining popularity due to their ability to product youthful, natural-looking results.

This series of products uses a patented NASHA technology which helps add the appropriate sized particle with the appropriate treatment. WHAT IS SCULPTRA?

Sculptra is a dermal filler used as a collagen stimulator, and it’s mainly used to treat wrinkles and folds on the face. The main ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). This ingredient provides long-lasting results that last, making it a cost effective and safe dermal filler.

Sculptra use, however, is not limited to just the face. In fact, Sculptra has become a popular choice in the glutes, thighs, biceps, triceps, and the pectorals. It is also a good way to correct cellulite.

Frequently asked questions

Unlike other dermal fillers, you may not notice Sculptra results immediately. After the swelling goes away, you’ll look as you did prior to the injections. The product will begin to work gradually, correcting lost skin volume and sagging over a long period of time. In fact, in some patients, the results from Sculptra were still noticeable two years after the initial injections, but this varies from person to person.

Following Juvéderm treatment, the areas injected may be slightly swollen and red. Ice is recommended throughout the day to help minimize swelling and provide comfort.

After your initial treatment, you may experience a few common side effects. These include redness, tenderness, and swelling. In some rare cases, bumps and itching may occur.

Results with Radiesse are nearly instant. After treatment, you’ll see fullness and smoothness at the injection site. Within a few days, after swelling and redness disappears, you’ll notice immediate results. Compared to other dermal fillers, Radiesse results last quite a long time with nearly 80% of patients continuing to see results one year after the treatment.

Juvéderm Ultra XC is commonly used to help reverse the signs of aging. Without the need for surgery, Juvéderm injections can enhance numerous areas of the face such as:
